Doctors

All the doctors run morning and afternoon surgeries with 10 minute appointments.

For routine matters or reviews, you can book appointments with a GP up to 4 weeks in advance.

Please call the surgery as soon as possible after 8.00am if you need a to see a GP that day.  If you want to see a specific GP you may have to wait longer for an appointment

Home Visits

If you are too ill to come to the surgery and you require a home visit, please try and call the surgery before 10.00am.  The receptionist will need to take brief details of your problem so this can be passed to the Duty Doctor who will prioritise your visit.  Home visits take up a lot of the Duty Doctors time and the surgery is by far the best place to diagnose and treat your illness, so if you are mobile, please do try and get to the surgery to be seen.

Feedback

During the course of the year we ask patients attending the surgery to provide us with feedback on a series of topics such as appointments, contacting the surgery, the reception and GP accessibility.  Please help us by providing constructive feedback as this allows us to develop and improve our service to you.

Cancelled Appointments

Please contact reception as soon as possible if you are unable to keep your appointment.  Each month we lose over 100 appointments where people do not bother to attend or cancel.  These are appointments that could be given to someone else who needed to see a GP or nurse that day.

Getting the most from your appointment !

The GP or nurse you are seeing realises that you would not have made an appointment if everything was ok.  You may be nervous or embarrassed, but remember the person you are seeing wants to help you.

Below are some tips for making the most of your appointment:

1. Prepare for your appointment to make the best use of your time.  Be specific about your symptoms and any treatment you are receiving, including complimentary therapy, any allergies or reactions.  Make sure your most important concerns are dealt with first.
2. Remember to ask if you are unsure about anything.  You may want to prepare some questions.
3. Do not be afraid to be frank during your visit, everything you say will be confidential.
4. Before you leave make sure you are clear about: What happens next? Who is doing what? When will it be done? If you would like a copy of any letters written, you should ask now.
5. Please be patient when you try to contact the GP's or nurses, remember they are busy too.  If your call is not urgent, try to avoid calling before 11am.
6. If you decide to block unrecognised calls on your telephone line you will block our numbers if we try to call you.
7. Do you need help to explain your situation?  It should be possible to bring a trusted person to your appointment, but please confirm beforehand.
8. If things are not to your satisfaction, take up the issue with the Practice Manager.  If there is still a problem, it can be addressed independently through the Patient Advice and Liaison Service.  See the complaints link on the website.
9. Remember that each 10 minute consultation is to deal with one issue only.  If you require more than one appointment, please speak to the Receptionist when booking.

Test Results

Please phone reception after 11.30am.

Generally a result will be received within five working days, however, due to the variety of tests performed this can mean varying timescales of when results will be available.

Your GP may contact you with the result if he/she needs to see you for further treatment.  However, it is possible that the GP will leave a message or information for you when you ring in for your result or come into the Surgery.

We only give results to the named patient (over 16) or a parent or guardian if the patient is under 16.

If you want to see the doctor following an X ray or other hospital appointment, always check with reception that your X ray result or consultant’s letter has been received, as the doctor will be unable to discuss your results without it.

X rays can take up to 2 weeks, and letters up to 3 weeks to arrive.
