Our Practice Nurse team carry out a wide range of duties including:

• Chronic Disease management eg., asthama, diabetes, heart disease, hypertention
• Spirometry
• Cervical screening
• Ear syringing
• Removal of sutures
• Dressings (Complex and post operative care)
• Contraception
• Weight/diet advice
• Child and adult immunisations
• Travel and occupational vaccinations

Supporting our Practice Nurse team we also have a Health Care Assistant and three Phlebotomists.  Between them they undertake the following procedures:

• Dressings
• Blood tests
• INR blood tests
• Blood pressure checks
• ECGs
• Lifestyle advice

Midwife - St Luke's has a midwife clinic each Friday.  Please ring the surgery or ask at reception to make an appointment.  If you wish to speak to the midwife please ring 01803 881431.  Please leave a message and the midwives will ring you back. 

Travel Vaccinations

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements.  This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible  - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice  they are not a stock vaccine.  Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Most travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge.  This is because travel vaccination is not included in the services provided by the NHS and therefore is a chargeable service.

Hospital Care Service - Changes to Payments

From 1st November 2011, the full amount for the journey will be required to be paid to the Hospital Car Driver, with any reimbursement due to be claimed back via the following sources:

• Hospital Cashiers office located at the Hospital at which the patient has attended, in person producing documentary evidence that the patient is entitled to a reimbursement.
• By sending the Hospital Car Service payment receipt to the Cashiers Office of South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and all other hospitals.
• Where the place of treatment does not issue reimbursement payments an HC5(T) form tells you the procedure.
